Dr. J.B. Nation discussing the finer points of alien math.

On Tuesday, October 29th, Professor J.B. Nation did a talk called “How Aliens Do Math” to a packed room. He took us from Mercury all the way to non-planet Pluto, and explained how hypothetical aliens living on those planets might do math. He also talked about different ways of thinking about math. For example, how would you describe a straight line to someone who can’t see?

If you enjoyed this talk, you may be interested in attending his talk in Spring 2014 about the critters that eat dead whales. (Yes, it sounds a little disgusting, but it’s a great talk!)

Thanks to everyone who came to the event. The turnout was oustanding!
